In pictures: Holocaust survivors exhibition
Iconic images

Before World War II, professional photography among the Jewish community in Palestine was almost exclusively the work of German immigrants.

After the establishment of the state, Holocaust survivors from elsewhere brought a new approach which revolutionised the art.

Many of the photos taken by Holocaust survivors during the first decades of the state have become iconic - including this picture of a kibbutz worker, instantly recognisable to Israelis.
