In pictures: Holocaust survivors exhibition
Arrival in Haifa, 1945

Six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust – approximately two-thirds of European Jewry.

After the war, in Europe a quarter of a million survivors gathered in displaced persons camps. Most would eventually immigrate to Israel.

There are some 250,000 Holocaust survivors in Israel today – about half the number who arrived in the country since its establishment in 1948.
