Vulnerable bird of prey

The Lappet-faced Vulture is the largest bird of prey in Africa. It has a wing span of three metres.

The species is classified as vulnerable because only a small, declining population remains.

It has fallen victim to widespread accidental poisoning by farmers trying to control predators.

This picture was taken in the Red Sea town of Shalateen, near the Egyptian border with Sudan.
