Tough love

Recovering addict Kolya, who came here from Moscow, runs Izoplit.

The men look after themselves, doing their own cooking and cleaning, living as a commune as they rebuild their dignity.

"You have to be very tough with addicts," Kolya says.

"You have to instil a dread in them of ever going back to drugs."

"Tough but not cruel," is how one of the Fund's activists, Sasha Novikov, puts the principle of rehab here.
