		Notes unveiled Notes and coins were not introduced until 1 January 2002. The note designs were unveiled by European Central Bank president Wim Duisenberg in 2001. Mr Duisenberg served at the head of the central bank until 2003, when he was replaced by Jean-Claude Trichet.
