Slaughter

On the day itself, pigs are slaughtered. More than 40 pigs are killed for this ceremony; the meat then roasted and distributed to guests.

A pig can cost more than $100 (£51) - a large amount for villagers - but the show of generosity is a sign of the family's prestige and social standing. Taro is also distributed to the invited guests.
