In pictures: Remittances in Tajikistan

Mountain village

Zumchura village is situated 40km (25 miles) north of Tajikistan's capital, Dushanbe.

More than three-quarters of Tajiks live in rural areas. There are no jobs here so most men look abroad for work, mainly in Russia or Kazakhstan.

The World Bank estimates that $1.5bn (980m) is sent back to Tajikistan in the form of remittances - more than a third of the country's GDP.
