		Prawn exports These baskets of prawns in Mahachai are awaiting transport to one of the dozens of prawn-processing factories in the town. The bulk of the prawns are farmed, with just a few caught at sea. Thailand is the world’s largest exporter of prawns, and most are processed in this town, by Burmese labour. The biggest markets are the United States and Japan, which take about 40% each of the exports, followed by the European Union.
