Tucked against the relative safety of an impassable seasonal river, 24,000 other displaced Chadians have relocated their lives and families to this makeshift village.

They face shortages of food, water, shelter and adequate sanitation. Things get worse during the "hunger gap" before the September harvest. People have been attacked when trying to return home to plant crops or collect food.

Here, refugee children play in the waning days of the rainy season.
