In pictures: Nigeria's rubbish scavengers

Alhajeje is 17 years old. He left his parents house, and his 15 siblings, in rural northern Nigeria to came to Kano at the age of 10.

Now he lives in a small room of a family home in Kano city where he works as a house servant.

To supplement his meagre income he forages on rubbish tips with a bent piece of metal and a sack.

"I hope one day to be a sorter so I don’t have to go looking for things," he says.
