Daily journey

Box-loads of the mangos are then snapped up by women from the capital, Bamako, who arrive every day on cramped and decrepit vans that take more than two hours to complete the 45km journey.

Madame Kone makes the journey every day – “I pay 50FCA [10 US cents] for four mangos, that’s a good price because I have to negotiate with the transporters to get me back to Bamako.

"I then sell the mangos direct to the vendors in Bamako.”
