Long fight ahead

In 1996 the World Health Organization (WHO) said it hoped to all but eliminate the disease within 10 years.

But there is still a long fight ahead, with new cases appearing such as these patients waiting for a check-up at the clinic in Luri-Rokwe.

And even more are feared to have the disease in the vast areas of Sudan which were cut off during the long civil war.
