Despite its fearsome reputation, leprosy is very hard to catch most people have a natural immunity to the germ responsible. It can only be spread through prolonged personal contact and as soon as patients begin treatment, they cannot pass on the disease.

Leprosy has been curable for decades, but still carries a huge stigma and the risk of discrimination is high.
