Rebuilding lives

Yah Paye works for a group that is helping Liberian women rebuild their lives after years of conflict.

Liberia, Africa's oldest republic, was devastated by a 14-year war which ended in 2003.

Throughout the conflict the women of Ganta, a town in the rural north, endured extreme hardship.

Some were captured and forced into servitude and sexual slavery, while others fled to neighbouring Guinea. Stories of lost husbands, sons and fathers are not unusual - they are the norm.
