Rebel checkpoints are still a way of life in the north of Ivory Coast which for the last five years has been controlled by the New Forces rebels.

But under last year’s peace deal, the region is seeing the return of government services.

During the crisis, millions in the north lived without government taxes, electricity bills, state police and courts.
