In pictures: Escaping death in Central African Republic

Seeking shelter

The Central African Republic lies at the heart of Africa's worst conflict zones. It borders the "triangle of death" - Sudan, DR Congo and Chad - but is largely ignored by the outside world.

Civilians in the north are fleeing their homes to escape 'les coupeurs de route' – bandits who burn and loot, kill and kidnap.

Some 200,000 people, like teacher Albert Dokamba, 41 [pictured], have had to try to seek shelter in neighbouring villages or live in the bush.
