In pictures: Photos by the abandoned of Nepal

A familiar sight at the festival of Tihar, this tika tray of colourful powders is used for making intricate tikas, the traditional or ceremonial blobs daubed on foreheads.

It was taken by 13-year-old Sunita N, who Ms Carpenter says "has a particularly clear vision when she composes her shots, paring away extraneous material and focusing on the design and colour of her subject". No surprise then that Sunita wants to be a photographer.
