A conference in London from 18-20 October will assess high levels of maternal mortality in South Asia, described as a "silent public health tragedy". Delegates at the Women Deliver Conference will hear that little progress has been made in reducing maternal deaths in many countries of the region.
The meeting is being attended by a variety of aid agencies. Pictured here is 17-year-old Sita, from Nepal, delivering her first child. The baby is seriously ill.
