Freema was chosen as the new assistant to the Doctor, replacing Billie Piper. Freema had a very small role in the second series, playing Adeola, only a minor character who met a grisly end at the hands of the Cybermen. Doctor Who writer and creator Russell T Davies said of Freema, "Watching her during filming confirmed what an exciting new talent she is".
