Cruise ship travellers are responsible for much of the growth in the Falklands tourism industry, with about 50,000 people from 178 ships calling in to Stanley this season.
The cruisers come to town for a few hours only. The town doesn't currently have the infrastructure to cope with those volumes for longer. Passengers from smaller vessels, often on Antarctic voyages, are encouraged to stay for a night or more.
Land-based tourists usually visit for the wildlife, fishing and walking.
