The late Eileen Vidal, Leona's mother, was one of the best known Biggs on the Falklands because of her actions during the 1982 conflict.

She manned the radio telephone system, relayed military intelligence to HMS Endurance and, when there was still no confirmation of the Argentine invasion, warned Captain Nick Barker to keep away from Stanley.

"For God's sake stay the hell out of it. There are enough ships here to blow you out of the water," she is reported to have said.
