James Biggs was among 12 serving Royal Sappers and Miners to come with the governor.
His son William was described in his 1913 obituary as the "father of the colony".
"An interesting personality has been removed from our midst by the death of Mr William Biggs," said the Church Magazine.
"He came to the Falklands as a young boy in the early forties and was a native of Portsmouth. He used to relate with pride how he ran up the flag at Government House [in Stanley] as a boy."
