The Science Museum has applied for a £50m lottery grant to help build the new galleries and is one of six projects currently being considered.

Other projects vying for the Big Lottery Fund's Living Landmarks money are Sherwood: The Living Legend Project; The Eden Trust's The Edge development; Somerset County Council's Waterlinks development, The Black Country as an Urban Park, and the Connect2 local transport scheme.
