The site's curators believe the reason that the new museum would be popular is because the collections are of everyday objects that people can relate to.

"People can feel excluded from art museums, archaeology museums and anthropology museums because they don't know anything about the subject," said Miss Leskard.

"These objects appeal to everyone."

The one-person Osel Mantis submersible was used in the 1981 James Bond film For your Eyes Only.
