In pictures: Life in Stanley

Violet Stevens, 23, head waitress at Stanley's Upland Goose Hotel, is one of about 400 people who were born in St Helena, another British South Atlantic territory.

She has lived in the Falklands for three years. Like many - some of whom have settled long term - she came here to earn better money than is available at home.

"I can get £500 more per month here. The relationship with the Falklanders is good sometimes, but some people don't like us."
