In pictures: Life in Stanley

A few minutes walk away another part of Stanley society is living it up at a masked ball in the Town Hall.

The party, put on by the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), was raising funds for a new white board for local pupils.

Val Padgett, from Lincolnshire, works for Falkland Gold and Minerals and is one of Stanley's many UK-born residents. As with oil, the search for gold on the islands is ongoing.
