'Wriggly tin'

Stanley's distinctive architecture is one of many features to appeal to the town's visitors.

The brightly-painted corrugated iron - known in the area simply as "wriggly tin" - was used originally because of the expense of importing bricks and difficulties in quarrying the local stone.

This gift shop does a roaring trade in signs saying 'Danger, mines' - reproductions printed by the owner, which are based on the original Ministry of Defence signs made after the conflict.
