In pictures: Life in Stanley
Shackleton's farewell

The British Antarctic Survey has an office in Stanley.

One of its vessels the Ernest Shackleton - a logistics ship for the re-supply of scientific stations - called in to the town this week on her last visit for two years.

Due to work on the Halley VI station, built on the floating Brunt ice shelf in the Antarctic, it will instead re-supply from Cape Town where most of the materials will be sourced.
