In pictures: Broadcasting House at 75
Landmark

The first transmission from the BBC's iconic Broadcasting House, at Portland Place in central London, took place on 15 March 1932.

The organisation had begun a decade earlier, but by then it had outgrown its original premises off The Strand.

The building - often referred to as "BH" by staff - was described as "the new Tower of London" by the Architectural Review.

Sculptures by Eric Gill were commissioned to decorate the interior and exterior.
