Celebrating the harvest

Some villages hold traditional festivals called "baci" to celebrate a good rice harvest.

Along with Buddhism, the Lao people believe in spirits known as phi, which live in the forests and rivers.

Villagers believe phi can bring illness, disease or bad luck. The "baci" is thought to please the phi.
