Islanders are being trained as rangers, and anti-poaching efforts are beginning to show success.

Momed Juma is head of the unit on Ibo island. He said: "Before this area was integrated into the park it was very difficult to find good fish.

"It was uncontrolled – anyone could enter the sea at any time and take whatever they wanted.

"Poachers used to come en masse with big boats. Now there is a gunship there is more respect for this area," he says.
