Ibo is one of 11 islands that now lie within the park boundaries.

Mr Oncobu, 67, has fished its waters for more than six decades – as a child using a line from the shore and later as an adult on the boats.

He said: "We first started to see a decrease in our catch in colonial times, but even after independence from Portugal in 1975 we continued to see a big drop."
