For decades the islands were isolated by war - by the armed struggle for independence and then a protracted civil war.

The stunning environment is only now beginning to be exploited for tourism but this will inevitably exert huge pressure on already stretched resources.

Mr Oncobu says: "People are happy. There is often singing and dancing. For the moment we have fish but the future is not certain."
