Childhood challenges

Maasai boys must endure many painful tests including teeth-pulling, burning, tattooing, ear-piercing and circumcision.

They spend a period living alone in the bush to teach them maturity and respect for others.

This stage of "young warriorhood" ends with the Eunoto rite, after which they return to their villages as men to put their acquired wisdom to use for the good of the community.
