In pictures: Living on the edge in Chad
Engulfed by violence

For the those living on Chad’s eastern border with Sudan, the government’s rejection of a proposed 11,000-strong military UN force is yet another blow.

This woman in one of some 120,000 Chadians who have fled to camps in the past year, as the east has become engulfed by inter-ethnic violence similar to that across the border in Darfur.

Many of those displaced say Arab militia on horses and camels attacked villages, looting, shooting and burning huts to the ground.
