Thriving

King Jimmy's quay is the first place the returnee slaves landed - the first boatload arrived in 1787.

Today King Jimmy's is a thriving fish and vegetable market in Freetown and also serves as a docking area for boats which travel along the coast between Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Pictures by: Polly de Blank. Her series The Musical Legacy of Slavery can be heard on the BBC World Service.
