Abdulai

At 19, Abdulai Jones (left) is one of the younger players in the Sierra Leone team.

Rebels shot him in the leg and he lost both parents in the war. He walked into the offices of the sports club and demanded to be allowed to play.

At first he found it frustrating learning how to play with crutches, but then spent 50,000 leones ($18) on lightweight metal crutches rather than the wooden ones given out free at the amputee camps.

"I feel proud to play for my country," he says.
