Snake sensor

Many of Professor Hirose’s designs are inspired by nature.

Using striped snakes equipped with sensors, Professor Hirose studied how snakes move forward without legs. He then derived equations to explain the motion.

Snake robots have since slithered forward and are now much more complex.

Current prototypes in his lab can rear up like a cobra, move quickly across the ground or even swim.
