In pictures: Tribal quake survivors rebuild

The earthquake created social change. The Palasis are tribal people who live in close-knit clans. They were suspicious of foreigners and outside influence. After the earthquake, they formed a Palas Federation, made up of tribal people to represent the valley communities and negotiate with the outside world.

Whereas the various clans and tribes may have fought with each other before, now they are working together. It is a remarkable achievement for the tribal communities of the valley.
