In pictures: Shillong drum rolls into the record books

Organisers faced a major logistical exercise in getting the participants to the event. Space on public transport had to be found not just for passengers but for their drums too.

Many of the drummers were so devoted to their instruments they were reluctant to allow them to be placed in the boots or on the roofs of coaches. For some the journey to the event took more than two days.
