Photo journal: Harsh winter for tribal quake survivors
A tent in snow

Many homes were destroyed by the earthquake. But people are reluctant to move further down the valley into tent villages.

The Palasis are a very proud people. Every man is his own king. It would be degrading to have to live in a tent where you cannot have guests and offer them a drink or a meal. They are attached to their land and so they just don't shift.

Winterised tents, such as the collapsed one pictured here, cannot cope with this depth of snow and such harsh winds.
