"My husband and I crossed the equator for the first time on a containership in November 2005. All 'first timers' were brought before King Neptune and his wife - admirably represented by crew members.

Male passengers were shaved with pink foam and all passengers were given a foul potion to drink (actually rather tasty) as a punishment for daring to cross Neptune's waters! We all received a certificate to commemorate the crossing."
