"I travelled through East Africa last year and one of the many places we visited was the equator in Uganda.

We were given a demonstration of the experiment to test whether water does in fact go in opposite directions down a plug hole on opposite sides of the equator.

You know that the equator is there, but you don't expect the difference to be evident over such a short distance!"
