Although the fishermen could go back to sea, many of their boats had fallen into disrepair.

Worst affected were the fishermen from the Mawasi area in the extreme south.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has provided funds to refurbish 19 of their biggest boats, known as Shanshullas.
