At 60 degrees north Shetlandís climate is harsh, with little shelter from the elements. Although the weather is "not extreme", it takes strength to endure it, says Peter.
"You have to be absolutely inured to living under hardship. Our kids were brought up with it, itís in them.
"We are not quaint 'good lifers', we are masochists! We are here out of choice, you do it for the heritage and sense of belonging. Itís only a subsistence living but a means of allowing us to stay."
