In pictures: The Next Big Thing

To decide the winner of the BBC's Next Big Thing competition, seven of the best young acts from around the world were brought together for the final at London's famous Maida Vale studios.

The acts faced a panel of four star judges: producer William Orbit, Rough Trade founder Jeff Travis, African star Angelique Kidjo and Dirty Pretty Things drummer Gary Powell.

Former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel also gave his views.
