Towns in ethnic Tibetan areas have gone through immense changes as a result of modernisation, development and a large increase in the Chinese population.

Tibetans are increasingly marginalised as they are forced to compete for work with Chinese who are more educated and skilled, and rates of poverty among rural Tibetans are increasing.
