As part of a series on housing in South Africa, the BBC News website's Justin Pearce visits the buildings in central Johannesburg that are occupied by people who eke out a living the city centre – and who are resisting government plans to evict them.

Masala Kerinda heads the residents' committee in a building in Nugget Street – a name that recalls the gold rush of the 1880s, and where white-owned businesses had their offices before moving out from the 1980s onwards.
