In pictures: Joburg's crowded township
Nowhere else to go

As part of a series on housing in South Africa, the BBC News website's Justin Pearce speaks to residents of overcrowded Alexandra township in north-eastern Johannesburg.

Sizwe Khumalo, a driver (right), has lived since 1999 in the one-room house he built himself.

"I came here because my old place was too crowded. I asked the community for a place here."

Like most residents of "Alex", Sizwe wants to stay because it is close to his job and to his children's school.
