In pictures: Janjaweed in Chad

In a clearing not far from the small town of Kou Kou hundreds of Chadians are crouched in the bush, reports the BBC's Stephanie Hancock in eastern Chad.

They arrived here after Janjaweed militia raided their villages, shooting indiscriminately, stealing cattle and burning down houses.

A fresh wave of cross-border attacks by the Sudanese Arab militia has seen 10 villages attacked and some 3,000 displaced.

Many people have not eaten for days fleeing from their fields.
